Notting Hill Carnival 2008

Notting Hill Carnival, held each August Bank Holiday since 1966, is the largest celebration of its kind in Europe.

It started as a local festival set up by the West Indian immigrants of the area and it has now become a Caribbean carnival, attracting millions of visitors from around the world. With scores of massive sound systems, many spectacular floats and the traditional steel drum bands, plus hundreds of stalls lining the streets, this is probably one of London’s most exciting annual event!

Festivities last the duration of the weekend, with the main carnival and parade taking place on Monday 25 August:

* Saturday 23 Aug – National Panorama Championship: Ten of the UK’s top steel bands compete for the title ‘National Champions of Steel’, with performances starting at 12pm, and continuing until 9pm.
* Sunday 24 Aug - Notting Hill Carnival Children’s day parade, 10am – 7pm
* Monday 25 Aug - Notting Hill Carnival, 10am – 7pm
